Doodle Elizabeth Scott
May 17, 2008 — September 27, 2020
Doodle Elizabeth Scott, gifted us joy in abundance beginning May 17, 2008, and took parts of our hearts on September 27, 2020.
Doodle was my sidekick for 12 years, 4 months, and 10 days. We have been a family through thick and thin. Her dash was full of so much wonderment and joy, trips to the beach and the west coast, going to visit her gramma and grandpa Scott, going to visit her Memaw and PawPaw Robinson, sneaking my underwear, playing with tennis balls, loving her giant pig and stinky hippo, loving blankets and cuddles, and eating peanut butter and licks of mommy’s popsicles. She was a speed-demon on four legs until cancer kicked her the first time. She carried on with 3, being an amazing 3-legged wonder monkey. She fought and tried and wanted to get better. But this cancer fought her harder and made the dash permanent. But the dash was so full already it almost burst.
We laid her down with fresh flowers, pieces of her favorite things, and a few toys to keep her company. We lined her grave with sand dollars, the same way we have quietly slipped them into the caskets of those we have loved and lost.
It will take me a long time to learn to navigate without my best friend, my leech, my spooning partner, but I know I carry her light with me. Until I meet you on the other side, you are still my mookie, my lint-covered gummy bear, my kitty bits, my Doodle.
