I began to realize I wasn't going to be fortunate enough to work FOR someone who felt the way I did about death care. I had to be that someone for another.
Those of us who have worked any amount of time in funeral care know there are things you don't want to discuss with the general public. With this secrecy, comes additional with holding of information, and a whole lack of transparency in general which goes largely unchallenged and unchecked.
I recently separated employment with an entity that not only disrespected the dead in their care, but the living families members as well. From the inside, I was quick to get state licensing up to speed, update their offerings and price list... but some requests I was challenged on, and within months I was disgusted by the behind the scenes behaviors and activities.
I witnessed bodies cremated on amazon boxes. I saw bodies rot due to no accessible refrigeration. I heard the business owner say horrible things about the dead and their family members.
So when I could no longer improve things for the community within this business, I began to work on how I could fix things now.
